Research Overview

My primary research is in blending technology with language learning enabling students to develop positive learning patterns for English language acquisition. Technology organizes and tracks learning in a way that helps students to maintain contact with the language on a daily basis. It also provides personalized feedback on learning activities to a large number of students in a timely manner. Feedback is a key requirement for students to realize advances in their learning.

Technology also provides opportunities for internationalization experiences. Students connect through virtual exchange projects to others around the globe where they make use of their second language skills in a "real world" situation. Both synchronous (video/audio) and asynchronous (forums/workshops) modes are used. Research is conducted on their interactions both quantitatively and qualitatively.

I'm also a big advocate of open-source learning tools -- especially Moodle (, an open-source Learning Management System (LMS) designed for students and teachers in a collaborative constructivist environment.
