Entrance Exam Information

Overseas applicants are admitted to two of the University's four departments: International Tourism and Social Work.

Students from our partner schools are invited to study at NIU for a period of 1 to 2 semesters. Applications should be conducted through the international exchange office of a student's host institution. Application for the fall semester (September) should be made by June; application for the spring semester (April) should be made by November.

NIU accepts applications for its 4 year degree program from prospective students wishing to enroll as 1st year students or 3rd year university transfer students. Admission is granted on the basis of an examination of Japanese ability and by interview. International students enroll in regular classes conducted in Japanese. Hence applicants must be able to speak and write Japanese at a high level in order to understand lectures, and are required to posses Level 2 (or equivalent) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) administered by Japan Education and Exchange Services (JEES).
